who would have thought that a ribbon could be so sexy?ın the hands of

MARCH 2001
VALUABLE INPUT
If bad-hair days are turning into bad-hair weeks, and the products you use aren’t helping, try Nicky Clarke’s Vitatherapy range of nutritional supplements. They target specific hair problems and contain a powerful blend of ingredients, including vitamins C and E, iron, zinc and gingko biloba.
JUST A NOTE
When words aren’t enough, send one of Helen Althea’s greeting cards. Each displays a crystal with specific healing properties, so if a friend is low on confidence, send her a tiger-eye card, or if she’s lacking serenity, try bismuth.
BRUSH UP
With the perpetual onslaught of new fragrances, it’s difficult for one to stand out. But Emanuel Ungaro’s Desnuda has the “X†factor. A delicate blend of citrus, spices and sweet flowers, its originality is in the application method. Dip the brush into the perfume and sweep it across the skin. Like all things Ungaro,
STONE AGE
Spotted backstage at the shows – gemstones. At Roland Mouret, false nails were piled high with rhinestones for unrivalled glamour, while at Julien Macdonald models fluttered their Eylure diamond-encrusted lashes (extravagant at £750 a pair). Enjoy the same effect with a more affordable version – just as convincing and very disco-diva.
GOLD FINGER
Created exclusively for the presenters of January’s Golden Globes, Estée Lauder’s nail lacquer containing 24-carat gold is the last word in luxury. Alternatively, FEM’s Liquid Jewels, £58 at www.beautyspy.com, is just two carats less, but every bit as desirable.
PRE-SCENT
Serge Luten’s 40-year career has seen him revolutionise Dior and Shiseido make-up and develop his own line of perfume and cosmetics. His unique scents were launched in Britain last year and now he has created Fond de Parfum. This pre-perfume scented oil prepares skin for his fragrance and accentuates its notes. Wear both, or use the oil alone for a subtle effect
EXPERT ADVICE
be creative with a colourful palette
Every once in a while, a product lands on our desks that we’re happy just to stare at. To deface it with fingermarks would be a crime. This time, it’s the make-up palette. But of course, the point of a palette is to dive straight in and get dabbing. In recent months, palettes of all shapes, colours and sizes have found their way to our department – each one prettier than the last. Extremely versatile, the palette houses an entire make-up look, or a delectable selection of lip stains or eyeshadows. What’s more, it’s slim enough to fit discreetly into your Louis Vuitton envelope bag. Invest in a palette and indulge your artistic flair.
